After the fall of the communist system in1989 Hungary has aquired a large quantity of new laws (the form the basics for their social system) with as main points; democracy and a free market economy. According to the current legislation foreign citizens must have state authorisation to be allowed to buy / have property. This authorisation is granted by the head of a competent authority in the province where the real estate property is located (one can lodge an appeal when authorisation is not granted). Also the mayor of the municipality must grant authorisation, although this authorisation is not binding.
